About Our Cooperative

Powering Wendover's Progress

Wells Rural Electric Cooperative (WREC) has been the cornerstone of Wendover's energy infrastructure for over seven decades. Founded on the principles of community service and cooperative values, WREC has consistently delivered reliable, affordable electricity to the residents and businesses of Wendover and surrounding rural areas.

As a member-owned cooperative, we operate differently from investor-owned utilities. Our primary focus isn't shareholder profits - it's serving our members and communities. Every decision we make is guided by our commitment to improving the quality of life in the regions we serve while maintaining the highest standards of service reliability and safety.

Our Cooperative Principles

As a member-owned cooperative, WREC operates according to seven core principles that guide our operations and decision-making:

  • Voluntary & Open Membership: Our cooperative is open to all persons able to use our services.
  • Democratic Member Control: Our members have equal voting rights (one member, one vote).
  • Members' Economic Participation: Members contribute equitably to, and democratically control, the capital of our cooperative.
  • Autonomy & Independence: We maintain our cooperative autonomy even when entering into agreements with other organizations.
  • Education, Training & Information: We provide education and training for members and employees.
  • Cooperation Among Cooperatives: We strengthen the cooperative movement by working together.
  • Concern for Community: We work for the sustainable development of our communities.

These principles aren't just words on paper - they're the foundation of how we operate every day. When you become a member of WREC, you're not just getting an electricity provider; you're joining a community-focused organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in our region.
